Lawn Help

Hi all,

Had turf put down in the garden last year all is fine but there were a coulpe of time last year when i left it a bit too long and so there was some dead grass.  Basically lawn grows fine and green put you can see dead brown grass  in between  below the new blades. Is there a way to get rid without damaging the new grass?

Thanks

Might need to see a photo of your lawn as not really clear from your description. Brown and dead grass happens all through the year. But in summer, and in very hot dry weather, lawns can turn brown. But once you water it, it should green up again. Raking lightly to remove built up thatch will also help to let more air and light into the base.

Mow the the lawn and rake out the thatch. Re-seed if necessary. Keep watering through hot dry weather.

I think you're possibly seeing thatch. Rake it out, and that should improve the general health of the grass.
Try to avoid leaving the grass to get too long before cutting - little and often is always better, and encourages a denser sward.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

If you prefer to conserve water (or if there's a hosepipe ban later in the year) established grass will generally green up again once the rain comes even if it's turned completely brown.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
