Acer dying? Bug issue? HELP!

Hello,

Can anyone identify these bugs? My acer seems to be slowing dying one branch at a time is going bare and these bugs are alllll over the leaves and branches.

I assume they are what is doing the damage how can you get rid?

    They look like ladybird larvae and wouldn't be doing any damage. Can you describe the problem? It looks like there's some lychen on it, that's not a problem either.

    A lot of people have had some dieback from the cold weather earlier this year, could it be that?

    Is the Acer in the ground or a pot? Could be lack of water. Is it in an exposed area?

    Agree, ladybird larvae and 'good guys' as they eat aphids.  For general Japanese maple tree dieback issues, this blog is worth a read:

  • ah thank you just had a look up at the larvae, which is interesting as i was looking at getting hold of some ladybirds incase it was the aphids. i should of research that one step more! the acer is grounded about 8 ft tall,maybe the cold id estimate its lost 20-30 percent of leaves and branches that have dried up and died
