    I just meant you need to proactively take action early next year by using whatever -I call them- "counter measures" you decide to take against the aphids. That can be hosing them down with a blast of water, using methylated spirit or all the way to using insecticides.

    Right, so you hose them off a month before you see them. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    Start monitoring the plant early and once you see them, start hosing them off so you do not end with a large infestation. They like to stop by my roses and Crape Myrtles so a few years ago, I had to also release lady beetles and place water/food for them.

    Thanks everyone for their advice. Is it worth hosing the plants down afterwards?
