Tall Hardy Plant for outdoor container

Any suggestions for a tall plant to put in a container in Scotland. Needs to be hardy to cope with our weather.

More info - how far north/east/west are you and which way will the pot be facing?   That makes a huge difference to the hardiness required.

How big a pot and why does it need to be tall?

  • We are only a few miles from Glasgow but in a rural area. My wife is wanting something tall which would make a statement in the garden. The position of the pot has yet to be decided.

Well, until you decide where it's going and thus how much sun/wind/cold exposure it will have it's pretty impossible to recommend a plant.   Much will also depend on the size of the pot and whether she wants tall and columnar or tall and bush or tree shaped.
