Viburnum Burkwoodii leaf curl

Our VB had fewer flowers than usual in the spring then when the leaves appeared, many of them were curled and now dried up and the whole shrub looks very poorly.  I thought perhaps it was the late frosts but wonder now if it's something else.  I can't see evidence of aphids so any ideas would be appreciated.

Can’t help I am afraid but mine looks exactly the same so any advice would be appreciated.

Frost can affect new flowers and foliage just emerging, as with any plant, especially if it's in a sunnier site. They're best in a shadier site.
It's also quite likely that it's been on the dry side when the new foliage and buds were forming, and they therefore don't develop properly and get a bit crispy. They do need quite moisture retentive soil, and it was a dry spring in many areas. As they aren't evergreen in colder winters, they can drop foliage quite markedly too. Mine drops foliage every year.
It isn't usually anything to worry about. You can remove any affected leaves. Keep it well watered in drier spells and add a mulch. That will keep it happier.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Mine started to show these curled leaves. On a really close look under the leaves I found tiny black insects, really small. Not sure if they were beetles but I sprayed the plants with biodegradable permethrin overnight and repeated it 2 weeks later (this stuff breaks down in sunlight). I've had no trouble since and the leaves are looking normal now. The product is  Belgian but I know there are equivalents in the UK. Its the only insecticide I use.
