Elephant garlic

This is my first year growing elephant garlic which I planted last September in unison with Monty don, I can see the flower shoot just emerging do I leave this on or cut them off.

Sorry, no idea about the flower shoot.  Yours sounds more promising than mine!  I only planted them in maybe Feb, so mine are only 30min tall.  How tall are yours?  Can you post a photo?

I cut the flower off two of my larger elephant garlic plants.  I think I read somewhere your meant to so that, but hopefully someone in the know will confirm for sure.

I left mine on last time I grew them and still got a good crop from the bulb. You can eat the 'scape' though as a separate crop so if you don't want to enjoy the flower then let the shoot get to a harvestable size before removing it to eat. I need to get back into growing these, the best stew I ever made was beef and red wine with elephant garlic. Amazing flavour.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
