Jalepeno Germination - Too late to sow?

Hello .

I've been growing a lot of seeds and have been quite successful. I thought it would be fun for my partner to have a go at growing Jalepenos, which he loves. He got really into it, and was keeping an eye on them and tending to them every day. A few germinated, but after a week or two started to turn brown and wilted. Now, we could have done a few things wrong, and we have a better idea of what to do now, we even purchased a little heat mat for them!

What we're wondering is whether it's okay to sow a new batch now, this far into the year? The packet says to sow up until April. Will they be less inclined to germinate now, or could they germinate okay but we'll be unlikely to get a crop of chillis this year. We don't mind not getting a crop this year, if that's the only issue.

If you can keep them inside, warm enough and with enough light, you can ripen the fruit much later, and the plants will survive and grow bigger next year, beng naturally perennials.  I often have a chilli plant or two at Chrsitmas on the south-facing windowsill of a CH room. However, it is quite tricky to keep them happy with central heating, but if you get any to survive until next spring, re-pot when new growth starts and you'll be well ahead of the game. :)

@BobTheGardener thanks so much! Right, we'll give it another go! we put them in a propagator the first time, with small plugs which we think were too small and they were drying out too quickly. We're going to try them in bigger pots and of course, we have a heat mat now. :D
