Palm Tree advice

Hi there,

We have just bought a property that has a wonderful palm tree planted in the back garden. I have no idea what it is or how to care for it, and was hoping someone here might be able to give some advice please? It looks like it desperately needs some TLC!

Many thanks in advance,

Hayley

Hi Hayley, this is a Trachycarpus fortunei or Chusan palm. There are many care guides available via various search engines, here's one link which may help you:

There are also some useful videos on YouTube.
Your palm is a very handsome specimen, planted where it looks quite sheltered - this will protect the leaves from wind damage.  I'd give it a few handfuls of blood fish and bone to perk it up and a good watering.  It is about to flower so is very well settled.  You'll see from the care guides that you can either let the flowers develop (they are interesting!) or remove them.  You can also choose to tidy up the stem by removing the outside fibrous growth - I prefer to leave this in its natural state.  Enjoy your hardy palm!
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
