Help identifying eggs/pest on skimmia (female)

Hi all,
just wondering if anyone can tell me what these are? I’ve found them today on the branches of my skimmia shrub.
They seem to be on a bed of what looks like cotton wool with the body markings of a moth? Any help appreciated - thank you

Scale insect I think. Nasty critters.
  • Thank you both for your quick replies! This is certainly what it is, thanks for the link Alan I will now try to remove it but the plant is unfortunately looking a bit worse for wear

I’ve never had this but my mum used to paint the branches with methylated spirit.

  • The plant seems to be riddled with it, it’s in a large pot and I’m wondering if the soil will still be ok to use for something else if I dispose of the plant? Or will it be contaminated with more eggs?
