Does "Strulch" mulch encourage earwigs ? Discuss

So I have recently bought this and surrounded my delphiniums and Dahlias and they are no longer being munched ... however - does it encourage earwigs due to its straw ?

A while back I asked I asked about Strulch and didn’t get an answer. I’m guessing forum members don’t use it. I take it you’ve found it does deter slugs?

I started to use it with my Dahlias sitting in pots outside and some other plants that were getting munched it was really good . Then I bought more and discovered my lupine were still getting munched - I think where you leave a small gap near the stem of the plant could be an access area for slugs and hatching slug eggs - last night I went out snd picked about 8 slugs off my lupin and found a couple on another plant - I think on the whole it has thoroughly deterred them but maybe a few get through

Thanks, that is good to know. I might give it a go. Sorry I couldn’t help with your query.

No problem my friend has also been battling and tried various things including copper but it was difficult to use so then she tried strulch too and it helped

I really rate Strulch - it's not foolproof for slugs & snails, the more determined ones will still get through, but it definitely makes a difference. In my last garden, I was overrun with slugs and snails (epidemic proportions!) and the plants in the border were definitely munched a lot less. It also acts really well as a mulch too. I've just put some down on a border, and already it's making a huge difference to the moisture levels.

I don't know whether it would harbour earwigs, as I didn't have any in my last garden, and have only seen a few around in this one, but in terms of being a good product to use in the garden, I really rate it.

And another bonus is that the bags are light enough to carry, unlike similar sized compost bags!

(*am aware this all sounds like some kind of promo, for disclosure I have absolutey zero connection to them, just found it a really good product to use!)
