Hi

Has anyone planted any Giraffe Sunflower seeds? I have 10 of them 5 seems to have germinated so far, so looking fwd to see how high they grow.

Also I am trying to grow the birdseed Black oil sunflower seeds not sure how high they grow I assume to 6ft?? and the large grey stripe birdseed ones , both bought as I get 100s of thousands of them for a low price. Has anyone grown them before?

I grew Giraffe sunflowers a year ago, they were ok but I found them quite leggy and needed supports.  It might just have been the way I grew them. I found Titan and American Giant grew taller and stronger than the Giraffe. I think the Giraffe ones did grow pretty tall so make sure you support them.

This year I'm trying Red Sun and Teddy Bear which all seem to be growing well.

I've only direct sowed Red Sun last week to give them a try and Italian White and Russian Giant.   Wasn't able to accommodate anything indoors this year to start off early and no longer have room for little greenhouse etc.  So am looking forward to seeing how they go direct sowed.  They've only just poked out of the soil here though I'm weeks behind in Edinburgh as my soil has only warmed up the last couple of weeks.  Everything is behind in my garden this year.
