Leaves curling on my rose

I have a climbing rose which grows against the front of our house.

I had cut it right back last year as it wasn’t looking very healthy - and as I was relatively new to gardening thought this was the best course of action.

Having fed with manure and rose feed I was very pleased with how healthy the foliage was looking... until yesterday when I noticed many leaves are curling and are discoloured. I’ve had a look online but can’t quite figure out what’s causing this - there isn’t any obvious insect I can see.

Is this normal? Or something to be concerned about?

It could be caused by aphids or powdery mildew, specially newer ones.
  • Thank you - I have very sparingly used anti-rust/mildew/black spot spray as a precaution before issue appeared (as directed.

Such a shame as it was looking so healthy! Will cut away the affected leaves and give it another feed.

Powdery mildew often appears if the plant is stressed - so make sure you are watering it very generously and frequently. So close to the wall means it will be in a `rain shadow` and so will be dependent on you for water.

When did you last feed it?  Don't overdo it ... too much feed is worse than too little. :)
