Corkers

I have a wooden fence, the other side of which has a fir hedge- with multiple bare tree trunks and the fir hedge peeping above the fence- we have demolished the fence and are putting the fence behind these bare tree trunks- I was thinking of trying to grow plants up the bare trunks probably in pots- but wondered if anything could survive with the fir hedge canopy above it-- my husband is trying to create a sort of Mediterranean- bare olive tree look!!   I love clematis and black eye suzie- any suggestions would be gratefully received.  Thanks Corkers
