Lupin problems

I have recently purchased a West Country lupin, Persian slipper and potted into a large pot but within a few days the bottom part of the flowers are dying and dropping off and this is rising up.

Not sure what is causing this so any advise appreciated.

Thanks

That’s what they do,  I run my fingers down the stem at the bottom to take the seed pods off until there's more dead than alive then cut the spike.

I agree, it's absolutely normal for flowers to die off from the bottom before the top ones are fully open. Lupins are showy while they last but they don't flower for very long (not for me anyway). I get some smaller secondary flower spikes after the main one has gone over and been cut off, but they are a flower of early summer, they don't last for months on end.
