Plants that I grow in my borders that don't attract slugs: sweet william, peony, pelargonium, penstemon, rudbeckia, foxglove, astrantia, aster, crocosmia, phlox, cosmos, hardy geranium, helenium and my all time favourite: roses!

Thanks cats_and_dogs. This is a very good list to follow. I have noticed that slugs/snails usually dont eat biennials, so wallflowers are also good.

Cosmos do get munched here. I think more I reduce the slug snails fav plants, more they move on to the ones which are less fav or usually dont get eaten.

That's so true! My nasturtiums have quite a lot of slug damage this year compared to previous years, must be because none of their other favourites are on the menu!

I missed these beautiful slug-free plants from my original list: osteospermum, fuchsia, lobelia, alyssium, salvia (I grow Hot lips and Amistad), begonia, agapanthus, nemesia, hydrangea, aquilegia, impatients and busy lizzy.

The only snail favourite I can't do without is dahlias, but I always grow them in pots and I keep them in my greenhouse until they are big enough to resist slug attacks.

Avoiding slug and snail damage has had a big impact on what plants I grow, but simply avoiding the snail favorites means that I can co-exist with the molluscs without any real need for slug control.

. I had never imagined that snails will eat hellebores and salvias but they do.
Have you had any problems with bushy salvias? It's one of things I grow that my slugs and snails have no taste for. Which is partly why I grow it.

I am trying out poppies with my ninja slugs. Welsh poppies seem untouched. Ladybird poppies just in, I'm not sure about yet. I have to go and see if they are still there today. Californian poppies are perhaps ok too (red or yellow). Linaria stays untouched.

In terms of bedding, diascia seems to be pretty fine and lasts over the years, though it's sold as an annual. And yes, sweet williams. My cosmos gets decimated if small, so I only put in very large plants to beds.

My non shrubby salvias like may night gets eaten up, the woody ones like hotlips survive.

Thanks for further lists. Very helpful.
