It also gunks up the washing machine. Like those 'pods' of liquid folk use for washing.
The trouble with powder [which is a far better cleaner] is that you can't use it at lower temps because it doesn't dissolve properly.
You choose between badly washed clothes or higher leccy usage.
    C'est la vie.  :)

Ariel powder dissolves in mine at 20 (original with bleach for whites and the "colour" version for everything else). It's a lot finer than it used to be. No gunk. :)

You must be loaded @TheGreenMan - buying branded powder  :D
I've tried washing stuff at 30. Waste of time. Maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and fork out for the dearer stuff then. We have the machine on most days, so it might be worthwhile. Goes against my 'tight Scot' stereotype...  ;)

The pods might be fine if your clothes aren't very dirty, but I'm not convinced, and the washing machine chap said the same when I had to get him in to replace the rubber seal last year. He says all the liquids and the fab con is dreadful for bunging up machines. I'd stopped using the fab con a good while before that.

Haha!  Luckily I only do two washes a week so a box lasts me half a year most times.

Yeah I was told years ago by a white goods mechanic that powder is the only thing you should put into a washing machine.

I've been seduced in the past by the pods etc and they always let me down.

One of them, again I think Ariel, made my washing machine stink after a few uses.  Yack!

I need to get powder this week @TheGreenMan, so maybe I'll get a loan from my daughter for the posh stuff.... ;)
Mind you, my younger daughter has a 'condition' and she sweats like mad, so there's always a lot of her washing. I'll save a fortune when she moves out!

Well don't come looking for me if it doesn't dissolve for ya. :D

I'm now thinking it might also depend on water softness and pressure etc!

Might be @TheGreenMan. Very soft water here. Pressure's good though  :)

However, if it doesn't work - I will hunt you down....

I've used the pods usually at 40c for the last 15 years or so and the washing machine has been fine. Having said that, it will now probably break down. Hated using powder, it just used to clog the dispenser. Always use Fairy as a Which report recommended it. Can't stand the smell of Persil.

Why on earth would anyone wash their clothes in sanitiser?  A washing machine plus hot water plus detergent would see off most if not all bugs, including covid.

We use Ecover liquid ... it's clear, has no gunk, works well at low temperatures, we buy it online in larqer containers and decant it, thereby saving money, it's better for the environment  ... and the laundry smells really nice  :D

You put the powder directly into the machine @Lizzie27 - in a little container.  :)

So that I can wash at 20.  I use it for towels and bedding and anything that's heavily soiled.
