Strange blob on young crabapple

I planted this Golden Hornet crabapple (malus x zumi) back in March and today I noticed a black mark on a branch and splits around the trunk. Is this a symptom of a disease? It has bark chippings as mulch and afaik it didn't have any problems with drought. I also have red pyracantha growing nearby which was planted last autumn, will that be affected too?
