rhododendron problem

I planted a rhododendron about 10 years ago, last year I noticed the stem and leaves  drying, changing colour and falling, see the images below, it still makes some flowers but it looks very unhealthy, is there anything I can do to revive it?

    Did you feed and give it plenty of water last year,and remove spent flowers,? They need an awful lot of water to flower the following year

    Thanks Nanny, I was away last July and it suffered the heath but I didn't know they need to be pruned, when is the best time to do it?

    The only pruning outs get is removal of dead branches and some are well over ,20 years old
