Deutzia Gracillis few flowers

I’ve had this plant for 14 years now and it was a beautiful mass of delicate white flowers in May. The last 3 years through haven’t flowered the same. I pruned it back a little last year and it’s produced lots of new foliage but the flowers are all underneath to wards the bottom half of the plant so you can hardly see them. What could this be caused by? I’m so disappointed as it was so lovely.

Hi - it depends when you pruned it, I think. They flower on last year's stems, so you need to prune immediately after flowering, to allow it to produce stems that will flower next year:

I take out 2 or 3 of the oldest stems right down to the ground each year after flowering.  Like many shrubs, I don't think they've been helped by the periods of drought many areas have been experiencing over the last few years.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
