    Ash with salt in it.

A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

    Won't the salt kill plants?

Stamping or snipping is less cruel , eco-friendly and provides a snack for whatever comes across the bits.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • I can vouch for beer traps. This is the first year I've used them and they're making a genuine difference.

That’ll probably be one of their relatives, @B3. It’s a snail eat snail world out there.

While they're eating each other, they're not eating my plants.

  • Would we like slugs more if they were pretty?

Someone mentioned vaseline with some salt mixed in, smeared around the rim of pots, on one FB group I'm in. This sounds plausible and the amount of salt involved wouldn't do any harm (although there was one poster in that group who was convinced it would kill all wildlife within a 4km radius and just wouldn't shut up about it... I blocked her)

I’ve read that tip too, Loxley. In the open ground collars can be made out of cardboard or plastic tubes and salted Vaseline applied in the same way.
