Fuschia Watering

I have predominantly fuschias in my garden and are all potted. Generally doing well and feeding with 20:20:20 feed. They are currently watered in the evening for 10mins and controlled by a dawn dusk timer. The method of watering is by spraying with strategically placed spray heads. The benefit is that they cover a wider area. My question is which is better, to drip water or sprayer and better in the morning or evening?

Not an expert but I have some fuchsias in pots. I would drip and do it in the morning if I had the luxury of that setup.

Definitely in the evening,  if you water in the morning the plants are dry by lunchtime in the summer, if you water in the evening they’ve got all night to stay wet.

I have my drip system set up to do morning and evening, currently 5 minutes each time but I'll lengthen the time when the plants have grown more and the weather is (maybe) hotter.

  • One of the reasons for the evening was to allow the watering to be absorbed. I suppose the real question is dripper or spray.

Dripper is less wasteful - all the water goes on to the compost where it can soak in, none is sprinkled onto foliage (or surrounding paving etc) where it will just evaporate and do no good at all. And if you see water coming out of the bottom of the pots, you can turn the time down a bit.

Good to know about evening watering. Heatwave means I’m conserving water again
