What's wrong with this clematis?

Hello all. Please see attached pic of a clematis flower. Obviously not as well as it should be what would this indicate?

    Give it a minute - it is just opening and should soon open fully and be gorgeous.
    Gardening in East Suffolk on dry sandy soil.

    And make sure it doesn't go thirsty, especially if it's in a pot.
