After seeing what it did to my across the road neighbour s garden and the pavement outside his garden , I would never have one. Pretty though they are.

I think, in that situation, I would spray any emerging leaf once it's big enough to absorb a systemic poison and take it down to the roots.   You may need to do it often until the roots take the hint and die out but it has to be easier than lifting blocks, digging bits out and waiting for the next bit of root to erupt.
Now that I’ve got that nearly all of that massive root system out of the floor, that’s what I plan to do with anything else that pops up.  In hindsight, it was stupid to cut the root and hope that it would die, but I am amazed at how evasive it became so quickly. I find it fascinating- block paving however, not so fun 🤦🏻‍♂️ Good for the glutes though.
    Thanks for all your advice.

Invasive not evasive. While I’m here not really editing this post for my lack of English skills. The roots of this tree where pushing up the drive in 2 directions, along a wall with a sucker nearly at the end and 90 degrees to that straight through the drive with no suckers making it unusable. Digging was, in the end, the only option. I’ll comment back if and when it comes back with a vengeance 😬
