Can anyone identify this tree/bush for me, please?

I bought this plant about 2 years ago. I was told it was a Christmas tree but it does not seem to be any species of Christmas tree I've ever seen (I'm aware there are quite a few different types).

This is the first year there has been any significant growth so it does seem to be getting somewhere (finally!) I'd like to know what it really is as it has simply become know as the "not a Christmas tree" (much to everyone's amusement!)

It might grow up to be an abies koreana in which case yes, it is a Christmas tree, but one of the newer ones that hold their needles a long time after they've been cut and not the usual Norway spruce variety.

Oh, OK. In that case, I guess we better stop calling it the "Not a Christmas tree". Thank you for the info.

It looks exactly the same as one that I have in a pot, but I can't for the life of me remember what it is. Mine certainly isn't an Abies though. I'll see if I still have the label somewhere, but I doubt it.
You'll need to keep potting it on as it grows - soil based medium not just compost - and keep it well watered. I'm thinking of planting mine out and using it as a Christmas tree when it gets to a decent enough size. Mine is about 2 feet in all directions. I got it December 2019.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It certainly has the potential to be much more interesting than the more usual Christmas trees that live in a pot and get increasingly more and more brown and then drop all their needles until they're nothing more than a skelly-bob.

Not definitely a Korean.  Might be a Nordmann.   Time will tell but it's a funny shape at the mo and a bit small to see how the trunk and branches eventually resolve into a tree shape.
