Do I deadhead the flowers at the tip or from the base ?

    Looks neater if you take them at the base.

    So you wont get any side shoots with flowers as you do with dhalias ?

    I follow the stem down to where it meets the little leaves and snip there.  When I get round to it - there are so many jobs to do in the garden at the moment!
    Gardening in East Suffolk on dry sandy soil.

    I cut off spent flowers individually until there are no more buds on the stem, then remove the whole stem. When I get fed up with this I just leave them to sort themselves out. They flower for most of the summer.
