Cosmos in bud too early!

Hello, I wondered if you could help me, a couple of my cosmos, sown in March, are less than 30cm high and already have several buds on them as if they’ve finished growing upwards and are about to burst into flower. Should I take off the blooms?
Thanks!

I usually take off the flower buds, but l think it depends on which variety they are. Some cosmos are shorter than others.
    Which variety are you growing?
Welcome to the forum by the way  :)

    Welcome to the forum

    I don't.
Mine do the same - I leave them in little modules as long as I dare, they're seriously root bound by then, but within a few weeks of planting out they're about 4ft and plenty of flowers.

Thank you! They are Cosmos Bipinnatus popsocks so not the tallest variety and are in 9cm pots outside waiting for their final spot, but some of the Cosmos Purity I planted into my aunts garden apparently also have buds on them and are a similar height.

I see Sarah Raven advises pinching out that variety when they are 15 to 20 cms high. Yours are a bit taller, but it might be worth a try. Personally l would hedge my bets and maybe do half of them 😁.

Thank you for looking into that, I had pinched out the tips already so they are nice and bushy, maybe I’ll pinch the buds off one and leave them on the other as an experiment...
