Dead Wisteria!

My wisteria has previously grown really well and bloomed every year on a west facing side of my house, it is 15 years old. It has just died! There are a few straggly stems at the base. Any ideas why this has happened?? It's such a shame as it was a beauty! :(

Thirst probably.  heatwave and drought last summer which will have stressed it followed by a very cold and bone dry April just when it needs loads of water to flower and produce new leaves.

If it still has some live stems it can perhaps be saved but you'll need to give it at least 15 to 20 litres of water a day, poured slowly round the roots so it sinks in and doesn't just run off.

Do this until you see the weak stems pick up and then carry on while you wait to see if new buds break higher up.   Give it till mid July to recover before you do any hacking back.  Do not feed it while it is stressed.  Wait for signs of recovery and then try a light liquid feed of rose or tomato fertiliser.
