I think Laura has sold so many augers...I just get horrified at the mess they make especially the massive ones she uses for the larger potted plants. And frankly I only plant maybe fifty plants a season if we include annuals, so buying a massive drill is a silly expense. I did try to use one for bulbs a couple of years ago and my drill just about coped...so gave up after about ten holes and planted the other 200 by hand. It just overcomplicated my gardening, but then I don't have three acres 🤣
Have been watching her for years and unfortunately as the projects get more large the least I take notice as they wouldn't really apply to most British gardens, we simply don't have the prerequisite size to make it viable. So what seems labour saving for a massive plot is just unnecessary complication and expense for my largish garden in South London.
I got an auger driil bit that fits on a hand drill. Cost about £12. I don't do that much big planting but it works a treat although I was surprised how much vibration you get
We have one of those drills. OH bought it for fence posts and it is good for those when I want a good, deep concrete boot for posts for wires for training espaliers and when I get my pergola it will be great but very messy when digging holes for trees or shrubs in what has been pasture and is gradually becoming mixed planting.
