I had some winter pansies still thriving in a hanging basket. I decided to give them a boost with a tomato feed, they are all dead now.

Something went wrong! I am new to feeding too...

@Ditsy you need to go very gentle with the feed. Read the instructions carefully on the bottle and maybe start with a half strength solution, which might only be a few tablespoons to concentrate diluted. Too much can be worse than none.

Might it not have been something else that killed them? Frost? Drought?

No frost or drought, it was only a couple of days ago @Fire.

So do you use a lesser dilute than you would for tomatoes? I put two capfuls into my standard size watering can.

My bottle instructions say one capful for ten litres.

I'm not saying that was why your plants died, just that it's good to be careful not to overdo it.

I too use one capful of tomato feed per watering can, but only feed once a week. This is later in the season ( late June) when I start, as I do put slow release granules below my plants when planting. Between the new compost and granules they don't seem to need anything till then.
In winter the beds get a mulch of manure, and in spring they get BFB.

Ha ha got it, less is best. Bit like chocolate cake, too much of a good thing is bad!
