Dry stream

What ho one and all,

When we built our house, we took rainwater from one section of the roof, into a Japanese style, dry pebble stream that goes to a pond at the bottom of the garden.  It is basically just for roof drainage, but the pond is in a are that is damp / wet. The ditch was lined with weed suppressant material and the pebbles just laid onto the depression; the 'dry pebble' stream was a sort of feature,

Over the years, earth, moss, leaves have more of less, covered the pebbles and now weeds thrive!

My question (problem?) is what is the best way to 'clean' the stream.  Scooping out the pebbles would not be too difficult, but all the earth would also come.  I cannot see an easy way to separate / wash the pebbles in bulk.

Grateful for any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks and toodle pip

Rex
