Mystery Rose

So I bought a rose from tesco over a year ago for £2. It was labelled as a Paul's Scarlet Climber however today the first flower opened and either I've done something wrong in its care or its not the rose I thought it was. Can anyone help?

I should add its in a largeish planter with a David Austin Molineux and Roald Dahl shrub roses if there are any leaves in the pics that look different.

A pic of the first flower, some buds, the leaves and a new cane which has been growing like mad I assume for next years flowers to come through on.

  • I should add that we have a somewhat significant aphid population that started on this particular rose that we are currently battling with ladybirds, lacewings and hubby squishing everything he finds. It also seems to get blackspot easily compared to the others.

Do you mean that you are killing the ladybirds and lacewings?
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Sorry I should've said squishing every aphid he finds! We check very carefully for lacewings first as they seem to disguise themselves as aphids to hunt.

Every ladybird we find is precious too. I've bought them and the lacewings in to help the situation.

It has improved but still a hefty infestation.

A simple case of mis-labelling methinks, nothing you have done wrong (or aphids) can change one rose into another 😊 Sorry, no idea what it is.

Whatever it is, it's a lovely accident!
  • Thank you for the responses.

I must admit it is lovely and very elegant just not quite what I expected. And I am a little worried it might need a bit more sun than I'm offering it as it's in a shady spot.

It's funny I bought this one as a test to see if I could keep a rose alive before I spent lots of money on the David Austin ones as I'm a very new gardener.

I wonder if I see what tesco have in stock this year and see if they have it again with the right label 🤣
  • It has opened out some more.

It started out pinkish and now seems cream with yellow. Keeps changing lol.
