This is now.

I think we have made a bit of a difference.

Still more to do though.

Impressive Palustris.  It's looking so much better.

Did you have a clear plan or play it by ear as you discovered what you had in terms of depth and quality of soil, problem plants and corners etc?

Can't tell you how many times I've changed tack here as we discovered buried buildings, volcanic soil like concrete, endemic mint and bindweed horrors, heatwaves and droughts......

We just make it up as we go along. Try a plant in what we think is the right place and if it thrives, great, if not we move it.
There are things I would love to do with the garden, but physically we are no longer able to undertake major building things.

Same here.  Have given up having plans as what lies beneath can be so unrpedictable.

We have to a fair bit of "quarrying" to prepare some planting spots such as a new bed along the north side of the ruin where I'm planting my Japanese maples so they don't get fried in the hottest part of the day.  That can be wearing.

The main thing is to enjoy the plants and planting.

If you look at the picture with the large round patio I would love to be able to get hold of enough matching broken paving slabs to make raised beds around the edge of it, but no chance really.
