Poorly evergreen jasmine

My star jasmine doesn't look very healthy, with yellowing and reddish leaves. I've given it some blood, fish and bone, but it hasn't seemed to help...

Would anyone have any advice about how to help it? It's in a sunny spot, which seemed acceptable according to the RHS site, and the soil seems quite rich and earthy (if that makes sense).

Many thanks!

I have four, two on a north facing fence with no sun, and two on a hot south facing wall/fence. The south facing ones are quite yellowish, the north facing ones are greener and generally seem happier. I suspect they struggle a bit with dryness and heat, but I think things will improve as their roots become more established.

Mine also looks terrible after the dry and freezing spring (on obelisk in south-facing garden). I am watering mine, and keeping my fingers crossed. As Loxley says, I think they are a bit temperamental when getting established.
  • Thanks, both. ☺️ It had crossed my mind maybe to move it to the other side of my arbour seat, where it might be more sheltered... But perhaps I'll give it a little longer to establish properly - see what happens!

Looking at it, I'd let it stay there and establish better. They often do take a while to do this and in the meantime they may look a bit unhappy. I can see some new growth on your plant, which is a good sign, and disturbing it yet again would probably finish it off. It would be a good idea to give it a good soak and then a good mulch--the spot where it is does look a bit poor. But the sun in itself shouldn't be a problem; they come from warm climates.

Don't forget either, that most evergreen plants will lose some of their oldest leaves around this time of year, which often go yellow first before they drop off.

  • Thank you for the additional info, Cambridgerose and Lizzie. ☺️ I will leave it where it is, then. Hopefully it will perk up a bit soon. 👍
