Gooseberry

I have aphids on my gooseberry bush every year and I spray it to no avail. It ruins the crop and tips of the branches. What can I do ?

  • There's only two things you can do, either improve the cultivation conditions aka the location of the plants or encourage aphid predators. It's a fruit I don't appreciate so haven't had any actual growing experience but clearly the conditions are encouraging the pest issues and no amount of spraying will improve those.

I get exactly the same on my blackcurrant bushes - masses of aphids in the fresh new top growth and growth all curled up just like your gooseberry.
Then I see the ladybirds arrive and then the larvae appear then the aphids are gone.
It happens every year, I never spray them with anything and I harvested just over 4Kg from 3 (young) bushes last year.
