Mulch for veg in containers

Hi

I am growing veg in pots and am giving sweetcorn a go. I have read that straw or wood chips are good but I can't find much about mulching in containers and I would really like to know if containers benefit from this and if so what would be the best type of mulch to use? I only have a balcony so cannot make my own. And if I should use one can I apply it on my flowers or do they all have individual needs?

Many thanks

I think some pine bark wood chips would work good, for all your plants.  Don't go too deep, so you can still get your finger in to check moisture levels in the soil.
