    I don't understand your query.

'Have moonta which has been teriffic but mow no growth'- what does that mean?

If you have puddles at the base of your clematis, it suggests the ground doesn't have sufficient drainage.

Have montana clematis which was flowering greatly last year. This year there is a puddle as base and no new growth. Wondering why.
  • Thank you For comment but my ground at that area is very well drained & clematis is only plant with a strange puddle

Do you know where the water is coming from? Are the plants at the bottom of a slope? Might you have a cracked pipe somewhere?

That spot is definitely not well drained and montanas hate having wet feet.   The base of that trunk loos rotted to me so I suspect the water has been there long enough to kill it off or seriously damage it.

You need to investigate where that water is coming from in case you have a leak in your water pipes or drainage/sewers.

  • Thank you all. Shall investigate nextdoors pipe system. Strange. it's only that one plant. All next to it are dry and well.
  • Update. Nothing to do with pipes. Found that another 3 have same prob' in different areas of garden.
Recently found simiar from 2014 on GW so following that advice. Thank you again.
