Wilting Laburnum Saplings

I've recently planted two laburnum trees (Feb 21) which we're doing fine until about a week ago.  They have tried to flower, but are wilting.  I assumed they needed a good watering which I gave them, but now I'm thinking I have made matters worse and they are too wet as we have had weeks of heavy rain.  Can I rescue them?

The hot weather will cause them to wilt a bit, especially if they're trying to flower. It's very difficult for a young tree to take up enough moisture to support flowers when it's just planted. Once it gets it's root system properly established, it should be fine. It takes a good number of months - often a year-  before that happens. Perennials and annuals get going very quickly, but trees and shrubs are much slower  :)
The watering is fine, assuming you prepped the planting holes well and the rootballs of the trees were also well moistened before planting, and they were well watered regularly afterwards. Make sure they also get watered well during further dry spells.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • Thank you for your feedback.  Yes they were planted properly and well watered.  I'll keep my eye on them.  As I say they have been fine up to about a week ago which would coincide with the warmer weather coming, so fingers crossed that's all it is.  Many thanks.😀

They're pretty trouble free trees, so hopefully  they should be fine.
    Fingers crossed for you  :)
