New plum tree

My new plum tree planted in March was going great until recently when I noticed the top leaves have all turned brown and withered. Could it have anything to do with the wind we had recently which was wild where I am on the south coast? What to do?

Hello @Bwramsay and welcome to the forum :)

You're right, it could well be due to the very drying cold winds we had in April ... nothing to do other than ensure the tree is well watered ... two buckets full of water every other day, poured slowly over the root area so that it soaks in rather than runs off the surface, from now until mid September.
Start watering again in March next year ... even if it rains ... it's virtually impossible to overwater a tree planted in the ground so don't worry about that.

Many thanks, I'll do that. Should I just let the leaves wither and fall off or should I prune the branches of the withered leaves? I'm not very green-fingered as you can tell..

I'd leave it to get on with it ... when the leaves are fully dead they'll fall off.   It's good practice to clear away fallen leaves from underneath fruit trees if you think there might be something wrong with them ... I don't think there is in this case, but to be on the safe side you might want to bag and bin them when they fall.
