Any Agapanthus Experts?

We have Agapanthus in pots and most do very well,  but we seem to "loose" the deciduous ones on a regular basis,  the evergreen ones are fine.  I was checking a pot yesterday and the crown was completely mushy and rotten,  but many of the fleshy roots were still ok. I  am assuming it won't come back.  Any advice gratefully received.

they can be attacked by vine weevil.
If you can plant them with a bit of moat around the rim and fill it with gravel / grit to stop the crown getting too wet.

Thanks,  I did check for vine weevil and I use nematodes to treat all my pots. Should we be taking the deciduous one in the greenhouse in winter?
Am I right they won't regenerate from the roots.

My deciduous ones are the same... have performed brilliantly for 6-7 years, never taken them in, this year they are looking very lame. Some green shoots, but sadly I'm not sure we're going to have the same display as we usually get.

I planted out about 40 deciduous plants into the garden last year and they're all fine despite sitting in pretty wet soil all winter.
