Tall grasses for shade

I have a holly tree at the end of a small garden next to a bowser and a large bush behind which I store old bits of wood, boxes of paint,  tools  etc   Most of it is hidden but I need something that tolerates shade,  fast growing and tall to hide the stuff behind the holly.  Grasses, a bush, I dont mind. I just want something that grows to about 2-3 m plus I can buy now and might have an effect this year .

Not too much to ask is it ?

Why not just erect a fence panel or trellis panel which will hide the stuff behind and give you easy access?   You could use the fence or trellis to grow climbers - plenty of clematis and one or two roses are happy in shade. and you could try something like viburnum tinus variegata which would lighten up the space and give early flowers and perfume - https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/60958/Viburnum-tinus-Variegatum-(v)/Details

Anything that quickly gets to 2 or 3 metres high is unlikely to stop just because that suits you and will end up being a thug..

If it's grasses you want, l suggest having a look at the Knoll Gardens website for some ideas. If you enter the type of location it will give you suggestions.

I have found them to be very helpful with advice, if you have any questions you can send them an email  :)

Other than bamboo, there are very few grasses that grow to that size which like shade. Luzula nivea would be good but only reaches max. 75cm and that's only when in flower!

You could go with bamboo and plant in escape-proof containers - they could be sunk into the ground if you like.

See what you mean about grasses. I can only find one bamboo which would be OK for shade  - Forgesia Blue Dragon.  Are there any more as all the one I can find have sold out ?  Thanks

Most bamboo are okay in shade, my Phyllostachys gets no direct sun. You can buy pretty big bamboos at Homebase (it's where I got mine)

Paramount Plants are not far from us.  They have wonderful specimen plants and trees (all mature and large), however they are very expensive.

I would go down the trellis route, and grow something up that likes sun/part-shade.
