Clematis only one very long stem

Hi
I have planted a clematis multi blue. It’s growing like mad but just one very long stem. Is there anything I should do so it branches out a bit more?
Thanks.

If you can train it horizontally, that branch should create laterals. If you plant clematis deep (these notes says at least six inches above the crown) it will help promote growth. If it's a group two or three, make sure to keep it very well watered and use a clematis feed.

Agree.  Train it horizontally or diagonally to encourage branching out and feed and water generously.  You could also try shortening that stem as this will also encourage side shoots.

If you have planted it deeply enough it will, in successive years, throw out extra shoots from the roots.  Train these as they appear so you don't end up with an impenetrable vertical tangle.

Great advice. Will do as you both say.
    Thank you.
