Ants!

I covered my old veg plot over to suppress weeds and I have uncovered it today and found ants, eggs and their nest. I wanted to use the plot this year but am not sure what to do now as their nest seems to also be in the soil. Any advice?

Rake it over and let the birds get at it ... they'll eat the ant eggs ... the blackbird and robin's equivalent of caviar.

Then just get on with the gardening as normal ... the ants will look for another home when they're disturbed by your activities.
