New apple tree help

I have fancied a Katy apple tree for a little while and happened to come across one a few weeks ago at the local supermarket at bought it on impulse. Trouble is i am not too sure where it is going to go yet so want to keep it in a pot for now. I put it in an 11 inch pot for now but am wondering how long I could leave it in this. There is no root stock info on the label so not sure if i could grow it in a bigger pot long term or put it in the ground (possibly  in autumn). Will it be ok in this pot then a bigger pot longer term when i find one? Any suggestions? Ita about 4.5 ft just now.

The 4.5ft includes the pot so i guess 3.5-4ft. I want to try some spuds in pots next year as mine keep getting eaten by pests so was going to buy 1 or 2 big 50ltr+ plastic pots with handles next year to experiment with, so guess i could buy one of them to use for now and see how it goes.

Katya is a fabulous apple tree but we have it in the ground.
    It produces fruit early.
