Air plant issue

hi, can anybody explain what’s happened to my tillandsia xerographica? I’ve only had it two weeks, have misted it once, maybe twice. The leaves have gone weird... kind of mottled. It doesn’t look healthy. Help!

It looks very dry and possibly a bit sun scorched. I've never tried these but I've heard they can be tricky. I soak all my tillandsia for an hour or so in rain water every week and mist daily. They can survive with less but they thrive if given more water, the caveat being you have to adjust watering depending on the humidity and ventilation in your house. The key thing is to make sure they can dry out quickly after watering so shake any excess out and suspend them upside down somewhere that they get good airflow. With the Xero you need to make sure water doesn't pool down inside the plant. Never use tap water though as they hate the chemicals. I've had a few get a bit singed by the sun if they're wet when the hottest sun is on them. Now I keep them somewhere bright but with filtered sun. The general rule is that the more silver they are then the more sun they can take.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
