Young plant stems hardens and dies

Hi

Not sure what's happening with my plants. They been growing fine after planting out and then half way up the stem they go hard (almost like scar tissue)/look squeezed. The plant then limps on and slowly withers away. Any ideas what's going on?

    What sort of plants?

Photos of the damage and the whole plant should help

One is dead, one is dying and one is limping on.
The first one was a courgette of unknown heritage (seeds from a friend of s friend), second a glass apple cucumber and the last a fat baby. So quite a spread. I'll try to get some photos later

Looks like they are all dying now. Might try to pot on the fat baby after removing the none true leaves to induce rooting.

How long have they been outside?
Looks as if it could be weather damage ... too cold, too wet.

None of my squashes, cucumbers or courgettes have been planted out ... I only started hardening them off today.

A coupe of weeks. The glass apple is under a plastic cloch made of from a bottle.

This is how big my courgettes and squashes are ... today is their first day outside ... they’ll go back indoors this evening

Hopefully I’ll be able to plant them out in a week or so’s time 🤞

My pumpkin (known as mutan/Nemo after the person who gave it to my friend) are out and dining fine.

Do you have then in the house or greenhouse? They look quite triffidy
