Plant ID

My husband reckons this is an ash tree sapling, can anyone confirm?

    It is. It's best to dig the whole thing out asap.

    Does it do a lot of damage then? Surely a tree is a good thing!

    Of course it's a good thing - in the right place.
    I'd suggest that isn't the right place.
    Ash trees become enormous, and are beautiful when they get big, but are desperately ugly as saplings.   :)  
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    It will eventually grow to be enormous. Do you really want a big tree there? It's right by a fence, what about the neighbours?
