Anyone know what this tree is called? Is it maple? Or a type of sycamore. It’s a big one

Acer platanoides Crimson King is a form of that one with red leaves.
A far better behaved tree than Acer pseudoplatanus...common name sycamore.
And yes it can grow quite large.

Many container grown acers have the potential to be huge if planted out. But ,fortunately, it doesn't happen overnight.
If you can get a photo of your brothers Acer, we might be able to identify it.
