Lawn not growing lush
Hello,
hope everyone is safe and well. I have a small garden and I have been trying over the past couple of years to make the lawn look and feel lush with not much success.
The lawn looks okay at the outset but there are some areas where there are considerable gaps between grass strands and I can see the soil through. I have tried running a detatcher and aerator followed by reseeding quiet generously in the month of April and topping up with top dressing soil followed by watering routinely. The box of seeds said germination should happen in a week or so but I am not seeing the lawn become lush.

What might I be doing wrong ? Any tips please on how can I make the lawn lush and dense.

Typically April is a good time to reseed, but if you are in the UK we did have a relatively cold and frosty April so the temperatures may not have been consistently high enough for germination.
From https://thegrasspeople.com/how-long-grass-grow/: “Most grass species will germinate at temperatures in the region of 8-10 degrees plus, but should these temperatures be inconsistent and drop frequently, germination and establishment could take longer. For best results, sow your grass seed when temperatures are reaching 8-10 degrees plus consistently for at least two weeks.“
Hopefully someone will come along with further advice.
Grass seed needs decent temps in the teens to germinate and grow, and it hasn't been particularly warm. April would normally be fine in warmer areas, but it's been colder than usual in those warmer areas this year.
A week is nothing. It'll come away soon. A house not far from me re sowed a lawn last month. They were fortunate that it was sunny, but it was frosty for about 20 nights of the month, so wasn't warm enough for it to get going very quickly. It took about 3 or 4 weeks for it to be looking 'green' consistently
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
