Ants nests in lawn

How can I get rid of the many ants nests infesting my lawn. None of the chemical methods work and we can't sit out there.

Water the lawn maybe? They won't like it, the lawn will like it and no chemicals involved.

I have tried watering the lawn to nearly flooding it but they keep coming back. I have used ant powder after ant powder. I have over 50 red ant nests in my lawn and its driving me crazy. When we were away last summer they all decide to hatch with flying ants and our daughter used kettle after kettle of boiling hot water which did some good but also kills the grass around the area. Hopefully some good solutions will appear on here.

Nematodes work well to persuade ants to move their nests but I'm not sure they would be effective if there are that many nests and they're quite expensive.

Ants like dry conditions for their nests so just watering it once to a flooded state won't work.  You need to keep it constantly moist.

Be aware also that while they may be living under your lawn they are not getting their food there so take steps to control aphids elsewhere as ants often feed on their honeydew.   Squish them with your fingers, blast them with a hosepipe spray, encourage predators such as ladybirds, lacewings, tits and sparrows.
