Astilbe - all leaves and no buds

I have an astilbe planted last year that seems to have loads of foliage growing but no flower buds - can anyone shed any light on why that is??
It's planted in shade/filtered light, has been kept wet (although last year I didn't realise they liked to be wet and let it get dry and crispy 😕) and fed blood, fish and bonemeal a few weeks ago

Bit early for any buds yet. Give it a chance  :)

Give them a feed with tomato or rose food, both contain more potash than general feeds.  Potash promotes flowers, not just leaves.

If it was allowed to get dry last year, that will have prevented it thriving as it should, so it may not be as well established. Under a tree will be drier too, so you'll need to make sure it doesn't get dried out regularly as that makes it difficult for plants to produce buds and flower as well as they should.

They don't all flower at exactly the same time either. It may well have buds in the next week or two. Certainly too early here for them    :)

So stop stressing it's too early is the general feeling  :)
I'll keep a more patient watch on it.......so impatient!
  • These plants are fairly bullet proof here, no feeding required. I chopped one in half for my grandfather last year to devide it, and both have regrown strong, but only in the last month, so I wouldn't expect flower fronds just yet.
